Count The Ways

It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood! It’s been raining for a few days, but the sun is out today and the grass and trees are greener than before. I thank God for His creation, sending the rain, and how it results as food for us.

Many times we forget all the ways God cares for us, even when we don’t realize it. I know I don’t always thank Him every time it rains, but I should. God is doing wonderful things for us all the time. The biggest thing God is doing, and has done, is sending Jesus in order to offer us His grace for our sin. The Bible says that while we were still sinners, Jesus died for us. That means that while we weren’t paying any attention to Him and doing bad stuff, He still came and died for us.

God is so good that even when you know you are doing bad stuff to Him, He still cares for you. Think about this. When Jesus was dying on the cross – one of the most horrible deaths known to man – the Pharisees were making fun of Him. They were taunting Him and calling Him a liar. In that most horrible moment for Him, He said to the Father on their behalf, “Forgive them father, for they don’t know what they are doing.”  Unbelievable!

God loved you when you were a sinner and paying no attention to Him. He also shows His love to us when we do pay attention to Him, and then make fun or rail against Him on purpose. Think how much more love He has for those of us who have said “Father forgive me. I didn’t know what I was doing.”

When you and I put faith in Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection, we get the full weight of the blessings of God. Do you believe it? It’s true. Thank God today for the rain that makes things grow. Thank Him for the cross of Jesus, that has the potential to save the world from an eternity in Hell. It’s very simple. Just believe. Remember what I said Sunday “it’s faith plus nothing.”  All you have to do is believe.

I’ll see you Sunday and we’ll take a look at Galatians Chapter 2. It’s quite amazing, to say the least.
